Taylor Swift Master Of The Ring With The Catchy Hit "Never Getting Back Together"

The theme for Taylor Swift's rendition of the "relationship gone bad" for the Grammys appeared to be very familiar... then I recalled Britney Spear's comeback album Circus. Her title-track Cirus came with a video showing Britney in a commander role as ringmaster of her own circus. Taylor resembles the same in her performance. Top hat? Check. Shirt-tails? Check. Long boots? Check. Cane? Check. There's misfits of all kinds gallivanting around creating an entertaining scene of "What's Happenin' Now" from clowns, marionettes, look-a-likes, flame twirlers, and puppets on strings. Then here comes a familiar character from Lewis Carroll's famed story Alice In Wonderland.

Is it just me or did the white rabbit have some smooth moves?!!? I've seen different versions of Alice In Wonderland but this one cast a hip-version of the I'm Late, I'm Late, I'm Late! character. You can't help but see him slide and jump around Taylor as she's trotting across the stage in the signature "horse or pony" trot we see our top female music Artists strutting around on stage doing. The stage is a lively one with all the sparklers and antics happening from every angle. You can believe Ms. Swift is the "girl next door" but after seeing the victim of a relationship turned bad tied hand and foot in four corners of a spinning elliptical illusion wheel there's much to say about the repercussions of crossing her! It's all in good fun, entertainment of course.

Let me take a detour for a moment just to comment, is it me or has Taylor's music changed from the Country twang with her playing the guitar to a more Pop sound? I may be out of the loop, which surely I am since I'm not following her 100%, but since the release of her album Red last year I've come to the conclusion that it has changed to more country pop. Or pop with country influences - whatever you wanna call it.

Vocally Taylor's voice is passable despite towards the end when it starts losing strength to uphold those last words. With the loss of strength you start to hear a more youthful sound, not quite as mature. With all the dancing and movements going on it's a challenging task for an artist to keep their vocals strong and on point. The song has more of a conversational- "phone-chat" element that gives it a more spoken-word, rap quality. So when it's time for her to "sing" she has to remember to pull in enough air.

Overall the performance was enjoyable. I'm a sucker for costumes and this plays into my interests. All the visual effects of flashing colorful lights, the fire bursts, dancing, and everyone in character makes for a memorable piece and that fits the grandiose peer-oriented gala as the Grammys.
