Frank Ocean is Channeling Orange with "Forrest Gump"

There were many mixed views and responses towards Frank Ocean's personal interpretation of an American faved movie. It's a challenge to critique on that level based on the fact I haven't listened to enough Frank Ocean music to compare what I'm listening to. I have no whims against the guy whatsoever, I'm just way behind on my music with certain artists so all I can do is speak from what I feel from watching his performance.

As a person who has been creating "art" since I knew I could draw I've been exposed to different forms of artistic expression. There's no way to avoid it if you're taking art classes and thinking it's the path you want to pursue. It can be this reason why I don't have such a negative response to his performance. It actually excites me because there was thought behind it, there was a "message". Whether I understand the message or not is besides me but he is what an Artist is. As a black person it's even more appreciated because my background had mostly Caucasian students who took the art classes. To see a brotha portray art for art's sake makes me wish I went to the same school he went to!

I thoroughly enjoyed the screen showing only his legs running while the upper portion was singing and playing the keyboards. The title is thought provoking and the  mountainous landscape background with the caravan of celebratory people gives you the feeling you're embarking on a journey with Mr. Ocean. From listening to the lyrics and learning about his sexual orientation last year it leads me to suggest he's singing about his love or a past love. I'm not sure, just a wild guess.

Regardless of what listeners think I don't think it troubles his spirit one bit if people didn't like his performance or not. When he's whistling at the very end and looking upward there's a sense of calm and resolve that I love. Just by watching he seems like an old soul with a humble spirit and calm nature. He's creating his art the way he wants to do it, just brilliance in my book. Keep channeling your orange Ocean!
Here's the song's caption:
I wanna see your pom poms from the stands
Come on, come on
[Hook]
My fingertips and my lips
They burn from the cigarettes
Forrest Gump you run my mind boy
Running on my mind boy
Forrest Gump
[Verse 1]
I know you Forrest
I know you wouldn't hurt a beetle
But you're so buff and so strong
I'm nervous Forrest
Forrest Gump
[Hook]
[Verse 2]
I saw your game, Forrest
I was screaming run forty-four
But you kept running past the end zone
Oh where'd you go Forrest
Forrest Gump
[Hook]
[Outro]
Forrest green
Forrest blues
I'm remembering you
If this is love
I know it's true
I won't for-get you
It's for you Forrest
It's for you Forrest
If this is love
I know it's true
I won't
For-get-you
