Emeli Sande, I've never heard of her until one morning back in March or April. Catching some music on one of my favorite music channels on Demand, VH1SOUL this song appeared and caught my attention right away. The lyrics are what had me in a trance and instantly I felt 100% connected and wanted to know more about this black Scottish Music Artist. If you can recall she is the Amazing Songstress that graced the Opening ceremony of the recent 2012 London Olympics and performed in the Closing Ceremony.
I love her tonal vocal quality. After discovering another favorite International Artist Ayo on VH1SOUL, on truly soulful days, I hear similarities in both their vocals. Actually I hear Leona Lewis too. Maybe it's a UK- Brit speciality, I don't know. Their region of the world gives them a particular sound with their accent that carries in their singing.
There are so many amazingly written passages in this song that I will literally post the whole song here because of how real and truthful it is. It may not be everyone's truth, but it's a Truth that feels very Real and Amazing for me and I want to share it with you Kool World.
You won't find him drinking at the tables Rolling dice and staying out til 3 You won't ever find him being unfaithful You will find him, you'll find him next to me You won't find him trying to chase the devil For money, fame, for power, out of grief You won't ever find him where the rest go You will find him, you'll find him next to me Next to me, ooooh Next to me, ooooh Next to me, ooooh You will find him, you'll find him next to me When the money's spent and all my friends have vanished And i can't seem to find no help or love for free I know there's no need for me to panic Cause I'll find him, I'll find him next to me When the skies are grey and all the doors are closing And the rising pressure makes it hard to breathe Well, all i need is a hand to stop the tears from falling I will find him, I'll find him, next to me Next to me, ooooh Next to me, ooooh Next to me, ooooh I will find him, I'll find him next to me When the end has come and buildings falling down fast When we spoilt the land and dried up all the sea When everyone has lost their heads around us You will find him, you'll find him next to me Next to me, ooooh Next to me, ooooh Next to me, ooooh You will find him, you'll find him next to me Next to me, ooooh Next to me, ooooh Next to me, ooooh You will find him, you'll find him next to me
There are two ways that I interpret this song. There's a different understanding of a song when you listen to it firsthand then later on read the lyrics. The way you feel before may completely change or you have an open-mind, seeing the song in a new light. The emotional connection I have is directed towards God, or the Lord. After reading the lyrics she is more than likely referring to a new love she is in the company of and describes the kind of person he is. I find it quite special if anyone can find a soul like that.
Finding true love is like finding a pot of gold, but so many of us spend all of our coins on first indulgence and end up left with nothing. Many people today take love for granted. We get used to it and it becomes a part of daily life that we forget we are dealing with another human being. A heart is involved. Emotions. Feelings. We get so caught up in our own personal squabbles that we forget about those that mean the most to us around us. We push them out and wonder what happened to the relationship. To be quite honest I haven't experienced, True love, yet so I can't expand on this topic much further than how we as people can take our loved ones for granted, but knowing the kind of person I am the one I do fall in love with will never doubt it.
Then I view the song from another angle. More on a skeptical note... so how does a person of this caliber exist? She describes this guy as basically, flawless. He doesn't go out and drink, stay out late, and doesn't seek notoriety. To address these points individually is where I pull my conclusion, Yes, these people do exist. We all drink, stay out late, and want a degree of recognition or "fame" in life -it's a part of living. The difference is how we manage ourselves with the fun. Moderation. She describes these acts of being human when the fun is no longer fun and it has become a detrimental problem, that can ultimately destroy a meaningful life. Her love does not fall for these traps, therefore he is living a life of worth, meaning, and loving her, which she accounts.
Many would say my life is not all that exciting because I'm not a heavy partyer. I have a good time when I do go out but drinking is not my foray. From school days to young adult life, one is judged on their character, or in this case no character, when it comes to what they are willing to do. If all you care about is a multitude of friends then there's no problem finding them when it comes to a good party or club-hop. The price you pay to live a life correctly or righteously truly has a price tag. There is a big sacrifice. Not many friends, being labeled and badly talked about, made-fun of, and other things we can all personally name. The hardship is feeling pulled into it when you think to yourself, Am I really being a dud? Am I truly missing out on something?
A lot of influences propel an individual to live the ultimate fun in life, but if it spirals out of control, then you're left with, Why didn't I stop myself? Look at me now?
Truly it's all a part of life. Instinct. Intuition. Integrity. To make it easy it's okay to sip a lil here and there, dance until you're tired here and there, take a puff if you feel it, but in the end you have to account for how far you take it. Moderation never hurt. I can't stop anyone from smoking as well as someone telling me to shut up or keep my mouth shut. Do your thing and I'll continue to do mine. Life is short. We just need to stop over-doing it. Kinda hard to say when many of the things we enjoy so much can be addictive.
My second interpretation of this song comes from what I know about Gospel church music and how it makes me feel. It has a soulful quality that delivers a personal awareness of the Lord being the only source of Love, Protection, Care, and Comfort that one can find. She gives all these reasons why He is the only importance she can have. Since this is how I originally viewed this song I want to continue to see it this way since now more than ever have I pulled from the Lord in times of challenge and misdirection. I view the Lord in this Beauty and know that despite all else falling short around me He still remains the same, stands by my side, and carries me when I feel defeated. It gives me strength and reassurance to hear a song that can speak of the Lord in all His Glory as your one and only Guide. I commend Ms. Sande for creating a classical, modern sound, with a Soulful spiritual backdrop that brings life to it.
You'll find Him, You'll find Him, Next to me...
So powerful.
